Maryland School Shooting - Details

According to sources, the shooter was 17 and used a handgun to shoot two people then fatally wounding themselves.

Maryland has many laws in place; there are Federal laws as well. Here are just a few:

-Must be 21 to buy a handgun - Also Federal Law.

-Handgun Qualification License - All first time persons 21 or older wishing to purchase a handgun (that aren't military or LEO) must acquire an HQL. The process runs checks through various Maryland data bases for issues like mental health and juvenile (to name a few) records and NICS.

-10 Round Magazine limits - Maryland prohibits the sale of magazines over 10 rounds (unless rimfire tubular magazines).

-Safe storage - Requirement to keep firearms locked up to prevent access from persons under the age of 18 from accessing.

-May Issue Carry Permits - You need a permit to carry a loaded handgun in Maryland open or concealed. MD has permits but it doesn't issue very many. Getting one like you would in VA, PA or WV is very difficult, requiring a "good and substantial reason".

-Schools are no go zones for a loaded handguns - Even if you have a carry permit, you can't carry onto school grounds as a civilian.

-Gun Free Zones - Federal law prohibits most people from carrying a gun onto school grounds unless you are cleared to do so.

-Assault Weapons Ban - Maryland passed one in 2013; Firearm Safety Act of 2013. Doesn't really apply here but I'm sure someone would say they need it.

So. You pretty much have the gun control playbook here. What would you like to do?
